The Alliance of Farum-Nataar

Definace of Hope

Amid humanity’s darkest hour, when chaos reigned supreme and war consumed the galaxy, an Alliance emerged, built upon a vision to end the suffering and restore the prosperity of bygone days. The nations of Farum and Nataar, the last remnants of civilization within the core sectors, found themselves driven to war against one another by leaders blinded by greed and ambition. Yet, amidst the turmoil, their commanders stood defiant, turning their guns on those they deemed madmen and rejecting a path they saw would lead to humanity’s final collapse. From this defiance, the foundations of the Alliance of Farum-Nataar were forged.

The leaders of the AFN are united by a singular vision: to restore humanity to its rightful place, ending division and suffering. As their forces marched across the core sectors, they brought an end to the relentless bloodshed, dismantling the reigns of tyrannical warlords and ruthless pirates. Their mission remains clear—unite humanity under a single banner and create a new era of order and stability.

Operating from the core sectors—the cradle of human civilization—the AFN seeks to expand its influence outward, reclaiming lost territories and enforcing their vision of peace and unity across the stars. To many, they are the architects of humanity’s salvation, offering protection and hope in a fractured galaxy. To others, they are an unyielding force, imposing their will through pragmatic and often relentless methods that blur the line between savior and tyrant.

For the Alliance of Farum-Nataar, the dream of unity is worth every sacrifice. Their belief is unwavering: For order will be restored, and humanity will triumph once more.

Command Structure

Command Structure

The military forces of the Alliance of Farum-Nataar (AFN) operate under the overarching command of the Alliance Defense Forces (ADF), a centralized and highly coordinated military organization tasked with ensuring the unity, stability, and security of AFN territories. While the ADF forms the backbone of the Alliance’s military might, its structure is complex and multifaceted, encompassing a variety of autonomous and semi-autonomous entities that contribute to its operations.

Core ADF Command

The ADF’s central command is primarily composed of military leaders and officials from the founding states of Farum and Nataar, who maintain the highest levels of authority. This concentration of leadership ensures that the vision and principles of the AFN remain consistent across its forces. Additionally, the Envy Concordium—a coalition of loyal states and founding supporters from the AFN’s core sectors—plays a significant role within the ADF, contributing personnel, resources, and leadership to key positions within the command hierarchy.

Independent and Specialized Forces

While most military operations fall under the direct purview of the ADF, certain specialized organizations operate independently or in parallel to its command, including:

Alliance Counter-Intelligence (ACI):

Responsible for espionage, counter-intelligence, and covert operations, ACI operates outside the traditional ADF hierarchy but coordinates closely with its leadership to neutralize internal and external threats.

Alliance Special Services (ASS):

A highly classified and elite branch focused on black-ops missions, advanced technological warfare, and non-conventional operations. While technically under ADF oversight, ASS maintains a significant degree of operational autonomy.

Autonomous State Militaries

Member states within the AFN, particularly the autonomous states, retain their own localized military forces. These state-controlled militaries operate semi-independently to defend their regions and uphold local order but are ultimately subordinate to the ADF in matters of grand strategy, large-scale defense, and offensive campaigns. The ADF provides overarching guidelines, training, and coordination to these state forces, ensuring they align with the broader objectives of the Alliance.

Although these Autonomous states are required to adhere to the ADF’s high command directives during large-scale conflicts or critical operations, and are expected to follows orders to the letter or lose their operational sovereignty.

Doctrine & Strategy

The Alliance of Farum-Nataar’s doctrine prioritizes unity and stability through a balanced and adaptable military approach. Grounded in the principles of combined arms, although the AFN has adapted to initially dealing with their adversaries in an indirect way, seeking to achieve their goals through political maneuvering and proxies or allied forces. Seeing their public images as humanities saviours as of highest importance, the AFN targets areas of key importance refraining from using excessive firepower and weapons of mass destruction, yet if all else fails, the AFN won’t hesitate to make an example of those they see a threat to their goal.

Core Doctrine: Final Preservation Doctrine

The Final Preservation doctrine was initially adapted following the AFN’s inception in the year 14CT. The Doctrines focus on a balanced approach to both defensive strategies, with an emphasis on adaptability. Based on a combined arms approach that balances the use of both defensive and offensive capabilities starting from the Whole of their forces down to the lone Infantry man. Unlike many of the more radical doctrines, The Final Preservation doctrine was designed with a core focus on the “heart and minds” mentality encouraging AFN commanders to find alternative means in achieving their goals through political and indirect methods, focusing on the AFN’s public image in the grand scale. Although this may have allowed the AFN to garner wide scale support, many in the AFN see it as a limiting factor given current times, with many high ranking commanders now seeing it as a suggestion rather than a firm guideline.

Core Principles

Stratigic

The following are the a summary of core guiding principle derived from AFN's commanders handbooks

Unified Restoration:All actions should be performed in the best interest of the AFN and its ultimate directive set out by ADF high command.
Guardian Angels:The Alliance’s commanders are ordered to maintain a clean public image during operations ensuring that the image of the AFN is not tainted in any way that could allow their opposition to take advantage of.
Adaptability in Execution:Encourage flexibility across all levels of command to respond to unforeseen circumstances, with a strong focus on logistical resilience and versatile deployment of forces.
Guiding hand:The AFN’s handbook encourages the use of “oppressed populace” simply Use proxies / rebel movements as well as covert operations to destabilize their opposition before committing their forces. Political and economic manipulation is highly encouraged through the use of indirect terms throughout their handbooks.
Strategic Targeting:Focus efforts on securing key strategic locations, such as industrial hubs, communication centers, and resource-rich systems, through direct and indirect means, ensuring the AFN's long-term dominance in contested regions.

Offensive

The following are the core offensive principles employed by the AFN:

Precision Strikes:Prioritize surgical strikes on high-value targets to disrupt enemy operations while minimizing unnecessary casualties.
Proxy Engagements:Engagement through third parties whenever possible, utilization of rebel groups, mercenaries, or allied factions to weaken and /or destroy the enemy without direct intervention if possible.
Strategic Dominance:Securing key value targets of both military, civil and or cultural importance, to subjugate the enemy without the need for a prolonged campaign
Through any means Necessary:AFN commanders are ordered to refrain from using overwhelming force unless all alternative measures have failed – although publicly denied, they are to achieve their goals through any means necessary.

Defensive

The following are the core defensive principles employed by the AFN:

Centralized Defenses:Utilizing multiple lines of defense, with key strong points to act as safeguards against encirclement of withdrawing troops, following a breakthrough, .
Local Autonomy:Defence of autonomous sectors should be left to local militant forces, with AFN forces reserves to defend areas of key importance.
False Weak Points:Fortified points should be established in such a way to mislead enemy forces into thinking they are a target of opportunity inturn leading them into predesignated killing zones.
Strategic Retreats:Prioritize the long-term survival of forces over holding untenable positions. Retreating to predesignated strong points.
Independent Allied Forces

Operational Integration

While the AFN requires allied forces from states which have been granted a level of autonomy, to adhere to a standardized framework of operational rules and regulations, it allows significant freedom in the organization, equipment, and doctrine of these forces. The goal is to ensure that allied units remain compatible with AFN standards without undermining their unique strengths or imposing excessive logistical burdens on the alliance as a whole.

Guidelines and Regulations

The ADF’s operations policies and regulations set the baseline for allied forces, focusing on:

Chain of Command Compatibility:

Ensuring smooth integration with AFN forces, including shared communication protocols and interoperable command structures.

Rules of Engagement (ROE):

Allied forces must follow AFN’s emphasis on minimizing collateral damage and protecting civilians, ensuring that the alliance’s public image remains intact.

Operational Cohesion

Allies are required to maintain the ability to operate seamlessly with AFN units in combined arms operations, including shared logistical support and battlefield coordination.

Equipment and Organization

Independent allied forces are permitted to arm their units with their own equipment and organize their forces according to their native doctrines, as long as they remain functional and cooperative within the AFN’s broader strategy. This flexibility allows allied factions to retain their identity while ensuring their contributions to the alliance are effective and efficient.

Key Role of Allied Forces:

Force Multipliers

The existence of these allied forces allow AFN core units to be positioned in key locations of strategic importance, typically crucial for the success of military operations, while additionally having their numbers bolstered by allied reinforcements when the need arises.

Proxy and Auxiliary Roles

In some cases, allied forces are reported to act as proxies for AFN operations, engaging in localized conflicts where direct AFN involvement would be politically or strategically catastrophic.

Local Security

The existence of these independent parties allows these independent states to deal with local problems with piracy, warlord or rebels.

Strength in numbers

The existence of these forces allows for AFN numbers to significantly be bolstered wherever the need arises

General Composition

Adherance To Balance

The general composition of AFN units adheres to a structure where all elements complement each other, emphasizing cohesion and operational flexibility. Unlike many of their counterparts, the AFN has been noted for avoiding over-specialization, instead favoring a balanced approach to unit composition and operating structures. This philosophy ensures that every unit can counter a wide range of threats to a decent degree, reinforcing the adaptability and resilience of their forces.

This balanced approach extends to the armed forces of the AFN’s autonomous states, allowing them to adhere more easily to the operational standards set out by the AFN. By maintaining consistency and flexibility, the AFN ensures smooth coordination on a large scale, with the confidence that each element is capable of addressing diverse challenges effectively.

The following sections provide a general overview of the Alliance Defense Forces' composition, derived from a combination of independent and official sources.

Infantry Composition

General Standard

AFN infantry units are well-trained and equipped with reliable, modular gear adaptable to various combat scenarios. They balance mobility and protection, emphasizing light to medium armor to ensure ease of deployment and efficient use of the AFN’s extensive manpower. The standard infantry focus is on maintaining discipline and operating cohesively, whether in urban, rural, or alien environments.

Heavy Infantry

Designed to hold key positions or spearhead assaults, AFN heavy infantry is outfitted with advanced protective gear and heavy weaponry capable of engaging fortified positions and enemy armor. While their heavier loadouts limit mobility, these units are versatile enough to serve both support roles and frontline deployments, depending on mission requirements. Heavy infantry’s modular systems allow commanders to adjust their equipment and weaponry to suit specific operational needs.

Specialist Infantry

AFN specialist units, such as reconnaissance troops, combat engineers, and logistical support teams, are seamlessly integrated into the larger operational framework. These units are typically equipped with light armor for greater mobility, as frontline protection is seen as unnecessary for rear-echelon or indirect roles. Specialists prioritize flexibility and adaptability, focusing on tasks such as intelligence gathering, constructing defenses, and supporting ground operations through non-combat means.

Elite Infantry

AFN elite infantry is drawn exclusively from the core states of the Alliance, representing the finest soldiers the AFN can muster. Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, far beyond the reach of standard infantry, elite units serve as highly mobile shock troops or defenders of critical positions. Unlike standard forces, elite units operate as independent divisions, ensuring their skills and advanced resources are maximized without being diluted among general ranks. Their presence is often used as a morale boost for allied forces and a psychological deterrent for enemies.

Special Operatives

AFN special operatives are dedicated to infiltration, reconnaissance, and espionage. Lightly equipped for stealth and mobility, these units focus on avoiding direct confrontation while conducting covert operations such as sabotage, intelligence gathering, and assassination. Their elite training and efficiency ensure minimal detection and maximum success in missions critical to the AFN’s indirect warfare strategy. Special operatives are highly elusive, often working behind enemy lines for extended periods, providing the Alliance with a significant advantage in asymmetric and unconventional warfare.

Vehicle Composition

Armor Composition

AFN ground vehicles are a reflection of the Alliance’s balanced philosophy, offering a mix of firepower, armor, and mobility. Tanks, troop transports, artillery, and support vehicles are designed to operate as part of a comprehensive combined arms strategy, ensuring that no unit is overly specialized or reliant on singular roles. Instead of creating niche vehicles, the AFN prioritizes multi-role platforms capable of addressing multiple threats with adequate success. This allows units to maintain operational effectiveness across a wide variety of environments and engagements without compromising logistical efficiency.

Deployment Philosophy:

The AFN deploys vehicles strategically, focusing on objectives of high tactical value rather than indiscriminate deployment across the battlefield. While heavy armor and specialized vehicles are available, the AFN emphasizes light to medium-armored vehicles capable of adapting to shifting battlefield conditions. This approach ensures operational flexibility and reduces the logistical strain of maintaining large, highly specialized units. Vehicles are deployed to work in tandem with infantry and aerial forces, leveraging the Alliance’s combined arms doctrine to create cohesive and adaptable battlefield formations.

Vehicle Categories

Main Battle Tanks (MBTs)

AFN MBTs are versatile and balanced, combining moderate firepower, strong frontal armor, and reasonable mobility. They are not the most heavily armored or armed tanks in the galaxy but are highly reliable in offensive and defensive roles, supporting infantry and engaging other armored threats. Designed with modularity in mind, these tanks can be equipped with specialized munitions or secondary systems for different mission types.

Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs)

AFN IFVs prioritize mobility and troop protection, allowing infantry to quickly maneuver on the battlefield while remaining relatively safe from small arms and shrapnel. They are lightly armed compared to MBTs, focusing on suppressing enemy infantry and providing direct support during combined assaults. IFVs are equipped with advanced sensor systems to increase situational awareness for both crews and accompanying infantry.

Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs)

AFN APCs are built for transporting infantry safely in combat zones. While lightly armed and armored compared to IFVs, they are optimized for speed and modularity, ensuring that infantry can deploy quickly and adapt to changing battlefield conditions. APCs often serve as logistical support units in addition to their transport roles.

Artillery and Fire Support Vehicles

AFN artillery units are built for precision bombardments and supporting ground forces from a distance. Emphasizing mobility, these units often utilize self-propelled platforms, allowing for rapid repositioning to avoid counter-battery fire. Artillery systems include guided munitions to limit collateral damage and maintain the AFN’s emphasis on controlled, precise operations.

Scout and Recon Vehicles

Reconnaissance vehicles are designed for speed and stealth, equipped with advanced sensor arrays for intelligence gathering and battlefield surveillance. They are lightly armed, focusing on avoiding direct engagement while providing commanders with critical information on enemy movements and terrain.

Support Vehicles

Support vehicles include a range of logistical, engineering, and medical units tasked with sustaining operations. They are lightly armored and focus on ensuring the flow of supplies, repairs, and medical care to frontline troops, often operating just behind the forward line of battle.

Aerial Composition

Aerial Deployment Philosophy

Aerial assets in the AFN are integral to operate alongside ground and naval operations, emphasizing precision, survivability, and adaptability. AFN aircraft are designed to function seamlessly across a variety of environments, including orbit-to-surface deployment, enabling rapid response and reinforcement in contested zones. By the end of the century, all AFN assets had been required to possess vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capabilities, enhancing their operational flexibility in rugged or resource-limited environments.

Fighters

AFN fighters like the majority of AFN assets are a balance of speed, agility, and survivability, aligning with the faction's broader doctrine. Equipped with moderate armor, they can sustain reasonable amounts of damage in hostile environments while maintaining operational effectiveness. This durability allows them to function in harsh conditions or contested airspaces where lighter craft would experience failure.

Bombers

AFN bombers prioritize stealth and precision, designed for surgical strikes against high-value targets. These aircraft excel in quick insertion and directed payload delivery, reducing the risk of collateral damage and ensuring alignment with AFN's public image preservation efforts.

Strategic Bombers

While rare, heavy bombers are deployed in situations requiring large-scale payload delivery, typically in open areas devoid of civilian populations. These aircraft are considered a last resort, reserved for missions demanding overwhelming firepower against concentrated enemy forces.

Transports

AFN transports are typically considered to be quite well armored in comparison to many of their counterparts as the AFN typically employs the same aerial units designs employed in combat roles, although these version are either lightly armed or not at all they retain the same level of armor as their counterparts allowing them to safely operate on the front line and in hostile environments with ease.

Gunships

AFN gunships are modular aircraft designed for multi-role operations. Their configurations can range from heavy fire support to troop transport, depending on mission requirements, most designs can be reconfigured mid mission. With either additional weapons and munitions or troop transport capabilities allowing for a versatile platform complementing their combined arms doctrine.

Reconnaissance

Unlike other aerial craft of the AFN, reconnaissance craft are extremely lightly armored and armed, prioritizing stealth above all, to achieve the desired results these craft are typically unarmed and possess little to no armor.

Naval Composition

Naval Forces

The Naval Forces of the AFN are built upon the idea of individual self-sufficient fleets encompassing a wide variety of vessels from a range of classes. Unlike some of their counterparts, specialized fleets of the AFN adhere in large to the unified coherent structure in which various classes of vessels work hand in hand to complement each other's weaknesses and strengths.

Fleet Composition

The vast majority of AFN fleets are centered around their capital ships which act as the central command and logistical hubs of their forces, although these vessels are not as heavily armed as others they are supported by a wide variety of support by a wide range of auxiliary ships, including cruisers, destroyers, frigates, and corvettes, all contributing to the fleet's adaptability and resilience. This approach ensures that each fleet is equipped to counter threats across multiple domains without requiring specialized formations

Titanic Class Units

Purpose and Deployment

The AFN’s possesses a array of Titanic class Units, more often than not serving as physiological weapons of mass destruction against opponents lacking any sort of counter to them, resulting in their subjugation. These units can devastate smaller, unorganized forces through sheer firepower and presence. However, their practicality diminishes against organized, modern military forces equipped with aerial bombardment and long-range artillery capabilities, which can easily counter their slow and cumbersome designs. Additionally certain factions have developed designated units to deal with such threats diminishing their longevity even further.

Logistical Challenges

Titanic units are a logistical nightmare, requiring vast amounts of resources, maintenance, and protection to deploy effectively. Over time, their use has become limited due to their vulnerability and inefficiency, and they are increasingly viewed as liabilities by experienced commanders. Despite their drawbacks, Titanic units are occasionally deployed as last-resort options or for high-profile operations where their psychological and symbolic impact outweighs their practical limitations.
